The Trumpet Sounded

My brother:

At school day there was an assembly for Veteran’s day. At the end of the singing and the speech, two girls played the Taps. I had a flashback to our father’s funeral at his grave sight. The taps were played then. There were only four of us there that day. You were unable to attend because you were deployed earlier in the day. The marines, who did the service were wonderful. They folded the flag and shot the gun salute. It was a beautiful service. I cried unlike his first service.

Today, I was NOT expecting the Taps to be played at the school service. As soon as the trumpets began playing, I embarrassed myself and started to cry softly. I do not think any of my students truly noticed. But, I could not help myself.

Thank your for serving our country as our Dad did.
